Facial Tissue
The brand name now synonymous with the product itself — Kleenex — was originally touted as a handy way for women to apply cold cream when removing makeup. Many customers found another use: blowing their noses. Kleenex began pushing its product as an alternative to cloth handkerchiefs; “Don’t Put a Cold in Your Pocket” urged some ads. Being able to throw one’s tissue away, rather than carrying around a soiled handkerchief, can prevent the spread of communicable diseases such as the common cold and the flu.
